The key to effective operation and maintenance is constant visibility of performance through remote monitoring and experience in planned preventive maintenance.
Our in-house Operation & Maintenance team provides planned and reactive services to residential, commercial and industrial sites across UK.
Sustainable Energy’s operations and maintenance provide optimisation of energy systems to ensure efficiency and longevity, enabling our clients to realise the full potential of their assets.
We run dedicated O&M and energy dashboard software to deliver an accountable and transparent energy operations service.

Heat network operations
Our operations services deliver resilience, efficiency, cost and carbon savings for heat networks. We provide long-term partnerships with our service team, having provided ongoing O&M service contracts for heat networks with the same clients for over 15 years.
We bring an operating experience underpinned by a wealth of expertise and a proven track record in maximising energy operations and performance for clients and residents.
Sustainable Energy’s optimised, data-driven O&M approach provides a proactive approach to maintenance, which resolves issues before they reach the residents or affect the wider system.
With specialist software continuously monitoring the operation and efficiencies of heat network schemes to identify improvements or potential issues, allowing swift resolution.
Communal heating
Many housing and communal heat networks in the UK face challenges in achieving good, efficient operation and maintaining practice levels of data; this will raise issues in meeting upcoming regulatory requirements and net zero targets within their heat networks.
We work to mitigate these risks and enhance efficiencies that are crucial for owners and operators in these communal residential sectors.
Our services for operating communal heating schemes ensure schemes maintain compliance, meet the performance required to minimise the cost of heat to residents.
Sustainable Energy provides operations services and maintenance for all parts of a communal heating scheme from HIUs, through distribution systems to the energy centres and fuel supplies. We ensure your scheme is monitoring the required data and KPIs, working with you to deliver efficiency and resilience of supply.
Heat pumps operation & maintenance
Where performance is key, we ensure uptime and efficiency, monitoring and providing reports as part of the operations service.
We maintain and manage operations of commercial heat pump systems for single buildings to centralised networks across the UK. Our service partner agreements with most leading heat pump manufacturers provides access to parts, equipment and supplies, providing cost and time efficiencies.
Our commercial heat pump specialists include a team of experts who service, repair and replace ground, water and air source heat pumps nationwide.
Sustainable Energy’s fully trained heating engineers maintain all leading heat pump brands, including Carrier, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, LG, and more.
Our breakdown team provides swift repairs to every type of ground or air source heat pump, while our service team focuses on increasing efficiency and reliability.
Biomass boilers operation & maintenance
Vast O&M experience and long-term partnerships have given us a uniquely full understanding of systems, providing continuity as well as responsiveness to maintain heat supply.
Our Service Team has provided ongoing O&M service contracts for biomass heat and district heat networks for more than 15 years. Our team maintains training qualifications for most types of biomass boilers and have built partnerships with manufacturers for ease of access to parts and equipment.
Sustainable Energy’s experience includes low-temperature hot water boilers, medium-temperature boilers, and steam boilers. We’re skilled in fuel supply systems from toploaders, walking floors and rotary fuel conveyers.
For peace of mind, we’re registered with the MCS040 Biomass Maintenance Standard, which requires all recipients of RHI payments to ensure their biomass boilers are serviced by a certified servicing business. This scheme is managed by HETAS, under the name “HETAS Approved Biomass Maintenance Scheme” (HABMS). Our scheme registration number is 9312.
Water treatment
Our engineers sample and ensure ongoing quality is maintained to maximise life of assets. We oversee cleaning, flushing, filling, treatment and opening heating systems and networks.
Our services follow on to regular sampling to maintain water quality in line with all connected equipment, preventing scaling, corrosion, fouling & microbial contamination, and deposition that could affect system performance.
Sustainable Energy’s team includes experienced water treatment specialists, combining the latest treatment techniques to reduce costs, improve efficiency, reliability and safety; extending asset life time.
We have vast experience of both non-chemical water treatment approaches and chemical systems for boilers, heat exchangers, heat pumps, cooling systems and evaporative condensers.
Heat interface units & thermal substations
HIU performance is key to any district or communal heating system, which means servicing to ensure they efficient operation, reducing energy loss preventing costly breakdowns and wider system performance maintainance.
Our experience of network and heat exchange extends to thermal substations, heat exchangers and residential heat interface units HIUs.
We understand the importance of Heat Interface Units (HIUs) maintenance, and although they are a simple and robust means of delivering heat and hot water to residents, basic issues, from incorrect settings, control parameters, bypasses, filters etc., can have an impact on the wider system.
As well as using data from the HIUs we combine with energy information from the wider system to plan for preventative attendances and optimisations that run from the pumping equipment in the energy centre to heat exchangers and control valves in the substations, all the way to meter valves and exchangers in the HIUs. Sustainable Energy’s holistic approach ensures optimal performance and energy efficiency.
Metering systems
Ensuring the metering and monitoring on your heat network or energy system is functional and in line with regulations.
We provide a data health audit, which is designed to identify data completeness, infrastructure and systems to transfer data offsite reliably. We can survey metering and monitoring assets, providing clear, actionable reports with practical recommendations for necessary improvements.
We’re independent and advise on hardware, oversee installation, undertake configuration & commissioning, verify performance, and provide ongoing connectivity and maintenance.
A decade of decarbonisation: Transforming Wales’ largest domestic heat network

Newport City Homes is a large housing association providing services to more than 10,000 residents, leaseholders and shared owners in Newport, operating the largest domestic district heating network in Wales -supplying 1,000 homes, a school, and sheltered accommodation across the Duffryn Estate.
